June has arrived with its sunshiny days, 90-degree weather, and lack of desire to be stuck inside a plain, boring office all day! This time of year, it can be tough for companies to keep employees excited about coming into work when fresh air and sunshine tempt them outside. Here at OstermanCron, we like to keep things fresh and lively in the warmer months in a few different ways that keep our employees engaged all summer long.:
First, we have weekly happy hours or events sponsored by our “FUN committee”. Some examples include a 4:30 pm happy hour on Friday at an employee’s favorite restaurant or leaving a tad early to participate in an escape room or having an ice cream truck come to the office at lunch. Outside of work events are important to have as a company because it allows for team building and interaction while being in a “fun” setting where people aren’t afraid to be their relaxed self. Allowing these fun things to happen during normal work hours is helpful because it gives everyone the opportunity to participate as after work schedules are generally filled with all types of commitments.
Another way we get our employees excited about being in the office during this sunshiny, warm season is by making the OstermanCron office an inviting and fun space to be in. This can be done through the colors used in the design, how the office design is arranged, or even what the office background noise is. For example, here at OstermanCron our desks are arranged with Xsite office cubicles from Kimball Office. Xsite allows us to see our neighbors which make for a collaborative work environment. With this collaborative work environment, we also have music playing softly in the background so that even when our office is quiet it is not silent. This simple feature makes it comfortable for someone to speak without thinking everyone is listening. We also have accent walls throughout our showroom office that bring bright color into the space. Some of these walls are made from DIRTT, a modular wall system, which enables us to change them easily to fit our different designs. Along with many different wall colors, fabrics are important throughout because they allow different work environments for specific occasions.
