As you’ve probably heard, the past year+ has been tough on just about everyone. If you are reading this, you’ve lived through a difficult and traumatic experience. The COVID-19 pandemic affected our businesses, our jobs, and our mental health. As for much-needed vacations… well, those were affected too. Most vacations were put on hold, adapted to a secluded get-away, or cancelled altogether.
As businesses and restaurants began re-opening their doors, there was a newfound sense of hope and positivity in the air. When that air turned into the heat that is summer, the chance to get away, to try something new, and the opportunity for many to reunite with friends and family for the first time in over a year filled many of us with joy.
We are still in the midst of vacation season, and we love it. We’re dreaming of sandy beaches, cool mountains, nostalgic amusement parks, and delicious food. If you haven’t yet ventured out, or just aren’t sure where to go, our employees have shared a few of their favorite vacation getaways, as well as local spots for a weekend visit or staycation.
Gatlinburg, TN: This was the #1 most suggested location among our employees. With just a few hours of driving you can reach this scenic destination. Whether you want to enjoy quiet time in a cabin and hiking through nature, visiting the downtown strip and local tourist traps, or take a winery tour- Gatlinburg, and the surrounding area, have something for everyone. Its also a great destination for any time of year. Pack your bags because the mountains are calling!
Myrtle Beach, SC: You just can’t beat the feeling of the sun on your face, the wind in your hair, the sand in your toes, and the sounds of the ocean. While there are many fantastic spots for a beach vacation, this is a favorite among our crew.
Seattle, WA: “The weather in the summer is awesome – sunny & 80 during the day, 60 at night. Love the fresh air, mountains, parks & outdoor spaces. Pike Place Market is a favorite spot. Oh & I forgot to mention my grandkiddos are there along with their Mom & Dad,” explains our designer, Kathy. Sounds like a great place to visit to beat the Midwest heat! If you see them, make sure to tell Kathy’s family we say hi!
Maine: The whole state of Maine is amazing. Whether you want to spend time at the rocky coastline and enjoy the ocean or take a hike through a state or national park, the state offers plenty to the adventurous tourist. When you’re ready for a break, you can’t beat the fresh seafood on the east coast.
Liberty Center, Liberty Township, OH: If you are looking for a fun place to visit on the weekend, look no further than Liberty Center, located north of Cincinnati! This mixed-use outdoor complex has shopping, dining, a movie theater, a comedy club, and the kids will enjoy the bear fountain and train display. Make sure you stop at Graeter’s for a sweet treat!
Kings Island: We can’t create a list of local things to do without mentioning the iconic amusement park located in our back yard. Spend some time reminiscing about the good old days on the carousel, enjoy some blue ice cream, catch a show, and be sure to check out the new Orion coaster for the thrill ride enthusiasts out there!
