Since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute continues to release a new “color of the year.”
As commercial furniture experts, this is a big deal for all of us at OstermanCron! Why you ask? This color will be trending throughout the year on clothing, tech accessories, paint color, and—you guessed it—office furniture designs! To decide which color should achieve this renowned claim to fame, Pantone reviews current trends in culture and the marketplace. Such factors include political trends, what’s hot in the entertainment industry, fashion icons, and advancements in technology.
And after much review and discussion, Pantone has made its final decision. The 2019 color of the year is Living Coral (16-1546). This color was chosen for its “animating and life-affirming” hue which “energizes and enlivens with a softer edge,” according to Pantone’s website.
“Color is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities, and this is particularly true for Lining Coral,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial PANTONE Living Coral hit a responsive chord.”
You may have already guessed it, but the choice for this year’s color is largely due in support of the “save the oceans” movement, which is going on right now. In fact, right here at OstermanCron, we’re limiting our plastic straw usage, recycling more, and educating our team on the importance of a clean ocean. After all, for coral to grow and develop into a colorful shelter, it needs a healthy and thriving surrounding environment. Let’s hope this new color helps inspire others to work together to protect the oceans and the species living in it!
