It all started with the Mini Heart back in 2013. Three companies- Champlin Architecture, OstermanCron, and Williams Interior Designs- joined forces to assemble a team to help raise funds for the American Heart Association. We weren’t really sure what to expect, but our companies had worked on many healthcare projects together, witnessing patients and healthcare leaders trying to battle both strokes and heart disease, so we had the motivation. We also found that many of us already supported the AHA due to personal experiences with loved ones who have been affected or died from heart attacks and strokes.
The first few years we experienced a steady growth, and our team captains were able to network with other healthcare providers, industry peers, and make new friends along the way. Some years the weather the day of the race/walk was unbearable- rain, snow, and even heat. Other years it was just amazing to see 25,000 + people take part in the event downtown. What a breathtaking sight to see so many humans of all ages walking along Columbia Parkway in honor of loved ones who had either lost their battles, were going thru their battles, or to raise funds to prevent future episodes of heart related illnesses.
I am proud to say that this year we have assembled over 81 people for our Heartchitecture team and, to date, have raised over $17,500.00. Thank you to our employees, vendors, relatives, and friends for your amazing support. It is not easy to rally everyone to raise funds, participate in basket raffles, take part in Wear Red Day activities, or hang banners at jobsites in honor of Hard Hats for Hearts- especially during a pandemic. But we did it!
This year’s event on Sunday, March 28th will be a Virtual Event but we have high hopes that next year we will again be walking with all of our friends and enjoying the day!
