When you hear the word “campus” you may think of an upbeat green space filled with school spirit, college furniture, and students making their way to their next class. However today, the concept of ‘campusing’ is making its way back into corporate America.
Introduced decades ago, the concept of corporate campuses was originally created as an office design. Real estate was affordable and campusing became a way for larger companies of 100-200 people to centralize all of their employees. This model began to dwindle over the years as technology grew and employees began to work from home.
So, what made the corporate campus relevant again?
As we touched on last week, the overwhelming popularity of NeoCon’s most talked about products from Kimball Office is due to the changing needs of the workplace. Corporate campuses are coming back in style for the very same reason- to meet the fluctuating needs of large, global corporations.
To solidify this trend, there’s a new idea corporate campuses are integrating – technology. As they say, “If you can’t beat ‘em- join ‘em!” Although technology seemed to be the death of campuses, it’s exactly what will be deliberately integrated this time around. Expect to see modular furniture with USB hook ups, conference tables for collaboration with AV technology, and even DIRTT walls for plug and play capabilities.
Now, want to see an example of a recent corporate campus? National Office Furniture recently redesigned their headquarters and it is stunning! Even though OstermanCron does have a neat showroom, we’ll even admit – we’re a bit jealous of their space!
