How Sleep Affects Your Work By: Erin Buck

May 2, 2017Company Newsadmin

Sleep is critical in order to perform well in the office, but there are many aspects that people aren’t aware of. Sleep usually goes one of two ways: we either get as much as possible after a long day or we run on no sleep at all. However, did you know more sleep after a long work day can actually affect you negatively? Below are even more facts about sleep and your work life that you probably didn’t know.

As an interior designer at an innovative Cincinnati office furniture company, creativity is a crucial part of my job. Among many other benefits, getting the right amount of sleep helps fuel creativity. Having trouble coming up with ideas in your office cubical? Trying to think of the perfect finish for an office chair? Studies show that if you want to find more creativity, turn to more sleep. In our field of work, it’s important to be aware of what’s new in the world of office furniture, to be productive, and know what’s new or trending. So when in doubt- sleep on it!

Getting the right amount of sleep also helps you function and be a better teammate in the office. Sleeping less than five hours or more than 9 hours a night typically results in more sick days when compared to someone who sleeps between seven and eight hours. If you don’t get enough sleep, you will likely take longer to finish tasks, have a slower reaction time, and be prone to making more mistakes.

To combat sleep deprivation in the office, many workplaces are implementing naptime for adults. Studies have shown that people who take brief naps during the workday are more likely to get tasks done and stay productive. OstermanCron’s showroom has very comfortable lounge and modular furniture, so it’s easy to see how naptime could be quite easy to accomplish! If you choose to take a nap during the day, it should be between 20-26 minutes as you don’t want to over sleep and be even more tired.

Sleep is very vital not only for productivity at work, but for your health as well. So, make sure to catch the right amount z’s at night so you can be an outgoing and energetic employee!
