Wow the summer is flying by! My mom claims it will be over before we know it, but it still seems plenty hot to me! The heat makes me want to shorten the time that I walk, as it takes a little too much effort. I am not trying to be the best walker in the world. Speaking of being the best at something, I am reminded of the Olympics. I hear my people talk about how amazing these athletes are at their chosen sports. It is apparently inspirational how these athletes, families and coaches have dedicated their lives to being the best at their sport in hopes that some day they can complete in the Olympics.
While I appreciate dedication to their sport, I cannot understand how they are able to do it. The hours they spend practicing, working out, eating healthy, and the list goes on, is amazing. I get bored when someone expects me to bring them a ball that they threw. I will do it once and then I’m like, “Seriously? Get that yourself if you want it.” I know there are some dogs that will retrieve the ball all day if someone throws it. I bet they could be in the Olympics.
Again, I have nowhere near the dedication as an Olympic athlete. They run, throw, jump, ride, etc. to win, and here is the amazing part, if they win, they get to hang a medal around their neck. I already have metal things hanging from my neck every day. If I were to compete there would need to be food involved, and I am not talking a dog treat I’m thinking something from the grill – preferably of the meat variety. Can you imagine how many more people (and dogs) would participate if there was a food reward?
I do want to say congratulations to all the athletes that made it to the Olympic games! The past year has had more than one challenge for everyone, and to stay dedicated to their goals is an amazing accomplishment. I think we can all be inspired by them to stay focused on our own goals, even when we are challenged and under pressure. We can’t all be the best in the world, but we can strive to be the best version of ourselves. Woof! Next time someone throws a ball, I might even fetch it TWICE!
Until next time-
Piper
