What makes the “perfect” workstation? It seems like every other day I come across a magazine article or Internet post telling me what the current trends are in office furniture and what makes for a happy work environment.
As a professional in the design industry, I can talk your ear off about everything from color trends, to arguments for and against open office design, and the importance of offering both collaborative office furniture and private spaces. I can show you the latest and greatest in modern office furniture, and then give you a tour of our DIRTT GLC. The topics are endless and there is so much information out there; it can be overwhelming even to the most experienced designer. So, what REALLY makes for a happy work environment?
My office desk is adorned with pictures of my pets and people I love. Next to these photos I prefer to have at least 2 monitors; I find it difficult to work any other way. At just under 5 feet tall, “seated privacy” is plenty private for me – but you could take away the office partition panels altogether because when I need to concentrate I put in my earbuds and rock out to my iPod to create my own private world where nothing and no one can distract me (until someone shoots a rubber band my way because I’ve failed to hear them call my name three times). My co-workers would probably describe me as quiet, creative, and a little eccentric.
Why am I telling you this? Because I believe that the best way to create the “perfect” work environment is to get to know the people you’re working with. Differences in personality, age, and personal preference all play a part in what makes for a great workstation – not to mention the importance of understanding functional needs based on job descriptions. You can do all the research you want and follow all the trends, but there is no magic solution that works for everyone.
When you walk into OstermanCron, we don’t want to just show you what’s trendy – popular trends may not work for you. We want to get to know you, and provide a solution that is going to make you say, “WOW.” Whether you are coming from an established law firm, a start-up graphic design company, or looking for an ergonomic office chair for your home office, contact the OstermanCron team to find the “perfect” workstation for you.
