Two weeks ago, we introduced you to WeBOC, Well-Being at OstermanCron, and mentioned that well-being is about being satisfied with your life as a whole. Because many full-time employees spend more time at the office then they do at home, we believe in the importance of building quality relationships at work. Encouraging employee interaction helps develop a feeling of belonging and improves employee morale. It also gives a sense of purpose to our jobs, which is critical to employee well-being.
The WeBOC Fun Committee is our vehicle at OstermanCron to provide employee interaction and engagement. We have hosted events such as Trivia Happy Hour, Coloring over lunch, Scavenger Hunts, Ice Cream Socials, and most recently our annual Summer Games.
Summer Games took place during lunch and included a trivia contest and a rousing round of bingo. After eating our fill of City BBQ we wrapped up the competition with a wall sit contest where three OC employees tied for first place with a 5 minute wall sit! It seems a little friendly competition and a possible gold medal brings out the champion in us.
Everyone is busy at work and our time is precious, but it’s imperative to our company culture to provide opportunities for people to relax and connect with each other. As OC designer extraordinaire Elisabeth stated, “The busier we are, the more important the fun events become.” Most of these activities took no more than 45 minutes but the positive effect on employee morale and relationships is continual and immeasurable.
